Make the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 supreme law.
What will making the Bill of Rights Act 1990 supreme law do? It will mean the courts will no longer be Parliament’s servant. The Court will be able to overrule govt mandates or laws if they breach the rights and freedoms set out in the Act. If the government loses in court, it can no longer just change the law to get what it wants.
We wish our fundamental rights and freedoms protected from Government abuse. We believe that the COVID-19 legislation and proposed bills like the one regarding hate speech undermine freedoms of speech, religion, right to decline medical treatment, etc. We believe the best way to protect and preserve our rights and freedoms is to entrench the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 as supreme law, and that a binding referendum should be run to determine if that is the will of the people.
